But I think a major aim of I'm a Scientist is to help children grasp what scientists actually do and what science can and cannot give answers to.

Lorenzo, I'm flattered that you think my answers worth collecting as a vade mecum. And I'm very grateful for the Richard Hamming link - extremely interesting - thank you! I have also found myself advising people, as Hamming writes, that 'if you want to do important research you need to work on important problems'.Alan Winfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08263812573346115168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20402273.post-78767366832595445462011-04-03T11:42:45.394+01:002011-04-03T11:42:45.394+01:00I've read several of your answers and I think ...I've read several of your answers and I think they should be collected in a big blog post or even a vade mecum for scientists. People on the way to science will find it very useful!

(Ok, I know, I am suggesting some more work to bite time out of your busy day)

Richard Hamming did something similar here: http://goo.gl/RIkFDLorenzo Rianohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06323601032315494533noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20402273.post-71700513647780989792011-04-02T16:23:39.558+01:002011-04-02T16:23:39.558+01:00My first impression is that many of those question...My first impression is that many of those question are more on the philosophy side than science. Of course the distinction between science and philosophy is quite recent.

My second impression is that many questions are just mainly out of the scope of what science can really tell today. This seems to reveal a misunderstanding of what scientists really do and know.

It shows high expectations and demonstrate how little we actually know and can do.Joséhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05895557272447025125noreply@blogger.com
